DITO SENEGAL – LE FOYER DES JEUNES FILLES

Le Foyer des Jeunes Filles is a girls boarding school in Senegal. It is located in Tambacounda, a city of about 1.5 hours flying from Dakar.

Most (village) girls are usually married at a very young age without having to say anything about themselves. Some girls are still so young and physically insufficiently developed that pregnancy leads to incontinence with expatriation from the village.

Through internal housing Le Foyer des Jeunes Filles offers the village girls from remote areas of Senegal a chance of high school and future perspective. The girls are guided daily from their 6th to 18th year in their development and go to school in the city, a stone’s throw away.

Through their life in Le Foyer, the girls develop into developed and independent women. In addition to their school education, they learn about health, daily hygiene, nutrition and cooking and social interaction. Le Foyer also offers space for fun and relaxation, for example during a dance evening.

Future children of Le Foyer girls will grow up with developed, independent and educated mothers. These children, like their mother, have more chances in life. The circle of young graduates, pregnancies at an early age and complete dependence, is broken.
